HEATHER ROBERTS
VIU CAFETERIA REDESIGN
PROJECT OVERVIEW
The VIU cafeteria redesign aims to create a versatile space that enhances user experience by fostering collaboration, inspiration, and a sense of community. The inclusive design reflects VIU's values, welcoming people of all backgrounds. Biophilic elements, neutral colors, organic forms, and natural materials connect users to the West Coast landscape. The design prioritizes natural light for convenience and a visual link to nature. Intuitive wayfinding and strategic placement of elements enhance efficiency and reduce clutter, transforming the cafeteria into a hybrid space for socializing, working, and relaxation.
DESIGN GOAL
The goal of the redesign of the VIU cafeteria is to create a functional and aesthetically pleasing space where the user is able to eat, socialize and complete work within one space. This space should foster the relationship between the built and natural environment in order to increase the productivity of the user as well as nourish their mental and physical health.
